Join us for a recap of last September's "Kimball Cemetery Tour." If you missed the actual tour last Fall, this is an excellent chance to hear the tour inside, out of the weather, and with no walking.

Join us as we view a film made for the "50th Anniversary of the Duneland School Corporation". Tom Smith will present this film made with the support of teachers and community members. The film features interviews with many former DSC teachers, staff, and others involved in the formation and early years of the corporation including Bertha Still, Pat Mitchell, Jim Ross, Tom Smith, Dan Keilman, Jim Ton, and more.

Remember the '30s? Of course not ! Join us as we hear hear the news of the 1930s in Chesterton, Porter, Tremont, Pines, Liberty Twp, and Jackson Twp.

Talented DHS members Marti Pizzini, Suzanne Keldsen, and Jim Nelson presented “The Musical Heritage of Westchester Township.” The trio played music from several cultures that helped establish and build the Duneland area into the thriving community we have today.

Serena Ard and Russ Erwin presented “Haunted Duneland” with a look at old stories from the Chesterton Tribune and buildings rumored to be haunted. Serena first explained the value of ghost stories and rumored hauntings to the development of cultures throughout history. Russ, who does paranormal investigations, also brought some of his equipment to show to attendees. Stories included buildings and areas in the dunes as well as Porter, Furnessville, and downtown Chesterton.

Tom Smith presented “Smith Family Businesses” with a history of the various business activities conducted by his father, Richard Smith; grandfather, Harry Smith; great-grandfather, Myron Smith; and great-aunt and –uncle Oral and Charles Smith. From clothing and dry goods to cars and pianos, the Smiths sold many items to many Chestertonians over many years. Richard Riley, current owner of 101 Broadway which housed many Smith businesses, also spoke about the remodeling project taking place to remedy the numerous problems that have plagued the building over the years.
